How to Get Started as a Content Creator

In this blog post, I will be doing a quick overview of how you can get started as an Instagram Content Creator. If you’ve already thought about this being something you want to do this will help get you on the right path. You probably know the basics such as being consistent and posting high-quality content, this blog will go into a bit more in depth on this.

Weekly, I get inquiries on my Instagram on how I got started as a content creator and tips on how to grow. In all transparency, the Instagram that I created on content in 2020 is very different than the app currently. Luckily for you, I do think it is now “easier” to grow with good content.

A little background on me and how I got started. I started creating content 4 years ago when I lived back home in Florida and moved to Denver. I didn’t take it as seriously before then since I was in graduate school but knew it was something I wanted to take seriously after graduation. As I continued to grow my social media presence I found that not only did I enjoy sharing my travels but also sharing with others how to grow. Nowadays, I am grateful that I can do this full-time and work with some of my dream brands such as Southwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines, and Four Seasons Vail to name a few.

1. Find Your Niche

Identify Your Passion: Choose a niche that you are passionate about. If you love fashion, then post about fashion

Research Your Audience: Understand who your target audience is. If you are a budget traveler, you want to appeal to that audience.

Be Unique: There are countless creators out there, but your unique perspective is what will set you apart. I have a friend who is a mom that teaches homeschools her son and teaches through travel, that unique perspective will set her apart from every other travel/mom creator.

2. Create High-Quality Content

Invest in Equipment: Good quality audio and visuals can make a HUGE difference. I record most of my content on my camera but started out shooting on my iPhone.

Plan Your Content: Pick a couple of days out of the week to post, I say a good amount is showing up 3-5 days a week. Consistency is key, and planning helps maintain a steady flow of posts.

Edit Like a Pro: Learn the basics of editing software to polish your content. My favorite apps for photos are Adobe Lightroom and Tezza. I edit all of my video content in CapCut

3. Engage with Your Audience

Be Responsive: Reply to comments and messages. Before you ask, no you do not have to respond to those spammy comments, but that person asking where you got your dress from or about a recommendation when they are in a city, answer those. Brands love to see that you have not only an audience but an active community.

Ask for Feedback: I LOVE asking my audience what they want to see on my page, I typically will do it every couple of months, this is why I started to incorporate content creator tips since my community loved the idea of them.

4. Collaborate with Others

Network with Fellow Creators: Most of my friends in Denver are also creators, I am so grateful to have met some of my closest friends through content creation. They can also help get you in front of brands and PR agencies.

Join Social Groups: Groups such as Yelp Elite are amazing ways to not only get content with working with restaurants but to connect and network with other foodies. Other cities, for example, Orlando, FL have The Blogger Union, which throws in-person and virtual events for creators in Orlando.

Conclusion

Becoming a successful content creator requires a mix of passion, dedication, and planning. By finding your niche, creating high-quality content, engaging with your audience, and collaborating with others, you can stand out as a creator. Happy Creating!
